Panel discussion on «BRICS Summit 2023: outcomes and future prospects»
On August 31, 2023, the Russian House in Chennai (Russian Centre for Science and Culture) organized a panel discussion on «BRICS Summit 2023: outcomes and future prospects», which centered on the results of the 15-th BRICS Summit which took place on August 22-24, 2023, in Johannesburg, South Africa.
On the panel were Mr. Oleg Avdeev, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Chennai; Mr. N.Ram, Director of «The Hindu Group»; Air Marshal (Retd.) M.Matheswaran, Founder-chairman of «The Penisula Foundation»; Dr. A.P. Ramaswamy, Associate Professor of Loyola Institute of Business Administration and Mr.P.Thangappan, Secretary-General of the Indo-Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industries. Journalists of the South India media as well as the lecturers and students of Political Science Departments of the University of Madras and the “Loyola College” were also present.
In his address to the audience Mr. Oleg Avdeev noted that BRICS was founded on the principles of equality, respect for the mutual interests of the member-countries and consensus in decision-making. The Consul General shared the opinion that the outcomes of the last BRICS summit marked a qualitative stage in the formation of a new and more fair system of international relations.
Other panelists highlighted the most significant aspects of the Summit: the entry to the BRICS of the new members – Argentina, Egypt, Iran, Ethiopia, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, the growing role of the "Global South" in the world affairs as well as the impending tectonic shifts leading to the formation of the much more fair system of international relations.
