Photo exhibition “Beyond Asia 2019” at the Russian Cultural Centre in Chennai

On December 20, 2019 the photo exhibition, dedicated to the international auto rally “Beyond Asia 2019” and sponsored by the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Chennai, was inaugurated in the Russian Cultural Centre in Chennai. The opening ceremony was attended by Meenakshi Arvind, the leader of the rally team, Oleg Avdeev, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Chennai, and Gennadii Rogalev, Director of the Russian Cultural Centre in Chennai.

The route of the trip started from the city of Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu and went south to north across India, Nepal and China to the Far East of Russia. The last leg of the tour commenced from the city of Vladivostok on the Pacific coast and terminated in the city of Saint-Petersburg on the Baltic Sea. The group drove along the entire stretch of the Trans-Siberian highway with stops in many Russian cities on the way, including Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk and Moscow. The whole travel, over 20 000 kilometers long, lasted for 52 days.

In her presentation Meenakshi Arvind told about the main purpose of the rally which was to raise the public awareness of the scope of modern therapy to prevent cancer diseases. She praised her well-knit team and shared with the audience her impressions of the rally, of Russia as a country and of interaction with the common Russians.

The Consul General thanked Meenakshi Arvind for the photo materials that she had so kindly provided and stressed that this successful non-stop rally made by her team across a number of countries, climatic zones and rugged terrain is really a commendable feat and a celebration of human spirit as well as a fruitful exercise in people’s diplomacy, which is instrumental in bringing nations closer to each other.
