Webinar «Sputnik V» and its significance to India»

On October 17, 2020, the webinar focused on anti-coronavirus vaccine «Sputnik V» developed in Russia and on its relevancy to India was organized by the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Chennai in cooperation with the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Chennai.

The event was addressed by Mr. Oleg Avdeev, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Chennai; Dr. D.Suresh Kumar, MD, FNB (Inf. Disease), Consultant Infection Disease, Apollo Hospitals, Chennai; Dr. Lalit Lakhwani, Head-Clinical Development at «Dr. Reddy’s Laboratory», Hyderabad; and other representatives of the medical community of South India.

In his address Mr. Oleg Avdeev noted the growing global interest in the first ever anti-Covid vaccine, which was developed by the scientists of Gamaleya National Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology and offers the real chance to overcome the current coronavirus pandemic.

While welcoming the innovation of the Russian immunologists the participants in the video-conference underlined the need for coordinated international efforts in tackling the deadly coronavirus. A vivid example of such cooperation is the partnership for trials of the «Sputnik V» vaccine between the Russia Direct Investment Fund and the pharmaceutical giant «Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories».
